Janet Hester Froome, of Cincinnati, Ohio, served in the Army Nurse Corps from August 1941 until December 1945, and continued a career in nursing and nursing education in Indiana, Minnesota, and Ohio. Janet Hester Froome was raised in the Winton Place community in Cincinnati, Ohio, and graduated from Hughes High School in 1926. She attended Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio, for two years, and then transferred to the Ball Memorial Hospital School of Nursing at Ball State Teachers' College in Muncie, Indiana. Froome graduated in 1936 and returned to Cincinnati to teach at the Jewish Hospital School of Nursing. In August 1941, Froome joined the Army Nurse Corps as a second lieutenant.
